A guide to ascent (how hilly is the walk)
The distance and ascent is in every event description (where applicable)
Where relevant, the distance and ascent is in every event description. There is no simple, failsafe way of describing how ‘hilly’ a walk will be, but this guide should help.
High ascent - Shorter distance = very challenging in terms of hills High ascent - Longer distance = less challenging in terms of hills Mountain Day - long ups and down to reach a summit (or more) and descend Hill Day - ascents and descends may be shorter, but there may be more of them.
5000ft/1500m - A very challenging mountain day. This represents the same ascent as the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge.
4000ft/1219m - A challenging mountain day. Especially if this ascent is across shorter miles (10 miles)
3000ft/1000m - A moderately challenging hill day
2000ft/650m - You will feel the hills and potentially experience a couple of steeper inclines/declines
1500ft/450m - Depending on the distance, a hilly walk. This is very doable over 10 miles but would be very challenging over 7 miles
1000ft/305m - Some hills - similar to as above re distance
500ft/152m - A flat walk, very little incline and nothing steep
